Phoenix

My childhood was filled with adventure.  Often we would find a magnifying glass and use the sunlight to burn just about anything we could get our hands on.  Autumn was our favorite time of year. We would collect large piles of brittle, fallen leaves and then burn them until they were ashes.  As a child I learned that once a thing is burned to ash, it cannot be ignited again.

A phoenix is a Greek mythological bird who at the end of it’s life, burns to ashes and then mysteriously rises up, reborn and powerful. It also can refer to a person who is mysteriously reborn after a time of apparent, utter devastation.  A phoenix is never fully destroyed even when all that is left is ash.

Ash is merely residue, but contains many minerals such as potassium.  It may look worthless, but is far from it.  Ash can be medicinal and used as a cleansing agent. The only thing missing in ash, is a large enough amount of fuel material to reanimate it. The phoenix understands that as long as there is a chance for combustion, there is a chance for rebirth.  Nothing can destroy a phoenix once she realizes there is even the slightest possibility to come alive and thrive again.

We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.2 Corinthians 4:8-10 NKJV

We are spiritually indestructible! Though our flesh or exteriors may seem burned up and destroyed and appear to have no value, because of what we’re made of, we have the innate ability to rise up like the phoenix. No one or nothing can suppress the power that is within you.  Because of God’s resurrection power that rests in you, you can overcome anything and be reborn, better and stronger.  This is simply who you are created to be.

Make this your day to rise like the phoenix within.  God has given you the internal power to make it so.
